1. “All Shook Up”
We’re kicking things off with “All Shook Up”. This song hit #1 back in 1957, but we’re still enjoying it over 60 years later!
2. “Are You Lonesome Tonight?”
This song by Roy Turk and Lou Handman has been covered by many artists, including Elvis Presley. He recorded his version of “Are You Lonesome Tonight?” after Colonel Tom Parker suggested it; the song was a favorite of Parker’s wife, Marie.
3. “Blue Suede Shoes”
This song makes you want to get up on your feet and start dancing! Elvis released his cover of “Blue Suede Shoes” back in 1956.
4. “Burning Love”
If you start dancing along, we won’t judge you! “Burning Love” ended up being Elvis’ final song that landed in the top 10 on Billboard’s pop charts.
5. “Can’t Help Falling in Love”
We can’t help but sing along when this song is on! “Can’t Help Falling in Love” was released back in 1961 and was featured in the movie Blue Hawaii. (As seen above)
6. “Don’t Be Cruel”
Up next is “Don’t Be Cruel”! It was listed on Rolling Stone’s 2004 list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
7. “Heartbreak Hotel”
It’s time for “Heartbreak Hotel”! There’s been a lot of speculation about the backstory to this song. Click here to learn more.
8. “Hound Dog”
Big Mama Thorton first released “Hound Dog” back in 1952. Elvis recorded his own version in 1956, which went ended up at #19 on Rolling Stone’s 2004 list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
9. “If I Can Dream”
A more serious and emotional song, Elvis recorded this tune a few months after the asssassination of Martin Luther King Jr.
10. “In the Ghetto”
Another powerful song from Elvis Presley was “In the Ghetto.” The Civil Rights Movement inspired Mac Davis to write the song.
11. “Jailhouse Rock”
“Jailhouse Rock” had to be on our list! This hit song comes from the movie of the same name.
12. “Love Me Tender”
Did you know that “Love Me Tender” was adapted from a Civil War tune, titled “Aura Lee”? The lyrics were changed to create this new song!
13. “Peace in the Valley”
While this song was recorded by many different artists, Elvis Presley’s rendition of “Peace in the Valley” is one to remember. Check out his performance from the Ed Sullivan show. (Shown above)
14. “Suspicious Minds”
While Elvis is the artist who made this song as famous as it is, he actually wasn’t the person who first recorded it! It was originally written and recorded by Mark James, before Elvis released his own arrangement.
15. “(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear”
This hit comes from Elvis’ movie titled Loving You. In 1957, “(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear” ended up at number 1 on the U.S. charts for seven weeks!
