Tina Turner: Legendary Singer Dies at 83

In Memory - Tina Turner

The world has lost a music icon. On May 24, 2023, it was announced that the talented rock 'n' roll singer Tina Turner passed away at the age of 83. Her representative confirmed she died peacefully at home after a long illness.

While she was known as the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll," her impact went well beyond rock music; she was a legend in the music industry overall.

She was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939. She got her start performing with Ike Turner and his band, The Kings of Rhythm. She performed on his song "Boxtop" back in 1958, where she was credited as Little Ann. It wasn't until 1960 that she debuted as Tina Turner. She was famously known as one half of the duo Ike & Tina Turner and later opened up about the abuse she endured during their marriage.

Tina eventually launched her solo career, where she had great success. And in 1984, she had her first and only Number 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with her classic, "What's Love Got To Do With It."

Over the course of her career, Tina sold more than 150 million records worldwide. She also earned 12 Grammy Awards. Tina was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame two times: Once in 1991 as part of the duo Ike & Tina Turner and once more in 2021 as a solo artist. In 2005, she was a Kennedy Center Honoree.

Although Tina has passed, it's clear her music will continue to live on for many years to come.
