Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man was written in 1942 for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Eugene Goossens conductor. It was inspired by a speech made earlier that year by Vice President Henry A. Wallace who proclaimed the dawning of a "Century of the Common Man".
